Ellen Dunphy Passed away July 4th, 2022 at her home in Redwood City, California after a two-year struggle with cancer. She was 35 years old. Ellen was born October 1st, 1986 to Ruthann and Donald Dunphy in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Ellen grew up in Gleason, Wisconsin, and graduated from Merrill High School in 2005. She attended Ripon College and graduated, with a BA in Theater, in 2009. On October 8th, 2015 she married the love of her life Andrew Clinnin.

Ellen was passionate about her chosen occupation, acting. At the time of her death, Ellen was a member of the Left Coast Theater Company based in San Francisco. She appeared in numerous theater productions both amateur and professional but her bread and butter was acting in instructional films known as Industrials. Before and during her cancer treatment Ellen acted in a series of instructional films portraying hospital patients for Stanford Medical’s Standardized Patient Program. Ellen found her greatest professional satisfaction in her leading roles as Anna in The Baltimore Waltz and Emilie in Urania: The Life of Emilie du Chatelet. Ellen also took great pride in her portrayal of Miss Cutts in The Hothouse. Perhaps her proudest achievement was to write and act in a one-woman play about her experiences as a cancer patient. The play raised $10,000 for the Gastric Cancer Foundation.

Ellen loved to travel with her husband Andrew. Over the years the couple visited London, Paris, Tokyo, Hawaii and numerous scenic locations within the US. She also loved reading, music, and the visual arts.
Ellen is survived by her husband Andrew Clinnin of Redwood City CA, her parents Ruthann and Donald Dunphy of Merrill, her brother Jack Dunphy of Gleason, and her sister Bridget (Casey) Dunphy of Milwaukee, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Ellen was a strong advocate for gastric cancer research. If you wish to honor her memory, please consider a donation to the Gastric Cancer Foundation.
