Nancy M. Birkett, 83, of Janesville, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Janesville. Born in Merrill, Wisconsin on November 14, 1937, she was the daughter of Ewald and Esther (nee Johnson) Kunkel. Her early life was spent in Merrill, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Merrill Senior High. She lived in Merrill until 2006, when she moved to Burlington. On September 20, 1958 in Merrill, she was united in marriage to Donald Birkett. He preceded her in death in March 2008. Nancy worked as a rural postal carrier for the US Post Office. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Burlington. She was a master quilter and head of the Ladies Guild at Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed going on mission trips to Guatemala.
Nancy is survived by her children, Arnold (Margo) Birkett and Kristine Heeg; grandchildren, Joshua Heeg, Jessica (Brett) Andersen, Rosa Heeg, Zachary Heeg and Megan (Austin) Kessler; and siblings, Gerald (Nancy) Kunkel and Susan (Bruce) Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and granddaughter Maria Renee Heeg.
Services for Nancy will be held Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11AM at the church.
